1. Buying a home means lots of paperwork. It’s very important to make copies of important real estate documents and store them in a safe place.
  2. Change your address with the postal service. Updating your address online only takes a minute.
  3. Locate the main water shut-off valve and circuit breakers.
  4. Re-key all lock and reprogram any keypads.
  5. Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It’s also a good idea to change all the batteries as soon as you move in.
  6. Check the HVAC system and replace filters. You should have a good idea of the condition of your HVAC system from you home inspection but it’s still a good idea to take a look when moving in.
  7. Deep Clean! The previous owners may have left your new place pretty tidy but before you move you things in its a great time to do a thorough cleaning.
  8. Use your home inspection report to plan future updates and upgrades.
  9. Meet the neighbors. It’s common for neighbors to be curious when a moving truck moves up, if you see any new neighbors out wave hello and introduce yourself.
  10. Be familiar with your home warranty. Things break down and need repair. If you know what’s covered ahead of time you could save yourself time and money.
